A prelude to my mother
with all our love
Born artist with the relentless drive to become one of South Africa’s greatest watercolour artists, my mother displays an extraordinary character that overcame many hardships in her life. Being a single mother, and raising two kids as an artist, was not an easy path to follow. Looking back, I marvel at the determination she displayed during her journey. What a privilege it has been growing up with an artistic mother.
What I have witnessed and learned from my mother as an artist is that you must push your boundaries and the limitations of your mind, to explore new concepts and different techniques and styles in order to find your own identity. Embrace your uniqueness and believe that nothing is impossible with faith in God. It takes a lot of stamina and the will to succeed. Never give up on your dreams.
May she reap what she has sown. May her lifelong contribution towards watercolour art influence many upcoming artists and may every person that looks at her work be blessed with a delightful experience. May she be remembered as one of South Africa’s greatest watercolour artists for many centuries to come.
Vasti
I witnessed most of these paintings being created, I saw you work, create, experiment, achieve. I watched your hands master the water and the paint.
I remember clearly as if it was yesterday how you would take the brush, mix the paint, put it down on the wet paper and draw that line from left to right in one brush stroke. Little did I know/ realise what I was bearing witness too. A true maestro.
I have said it before and I will say it again… I have not seen anyone with the skill you have when it comes to watercolour. Wet or dry application, or any technique – you are a master.
What a privilege it is to be able to show the world who you are and help carry this legacy you created. I have seen you pour your heart and soul into every painting. I have felt the emotion you painted with.
I have seen the people’s reactions when they experience your work. I have seen their faces light up with joy because of your work.
Your dedication. You have been blessed by the heart of God to be His hands through your work in making the world a more beautiful place to live in.
You inspire us to be the best we can, to be dedicated, proud and prevalent. But most of all to pray, work, believe and trust in God.
Your work is an offering to Him.
